I Started Talking to Myself Differently. Here's What Changed.

5 min read · April 6, 2026

There's a voice in your head that narrates your whole life. Mine used to be… not kind. Not dramatic-movie-villain unkind. Just quietly, constantly discouraging. Who are you to build an app? You're behind. Everyone else has help.

I didn't notice how loud it was until I tried changing it.

The experiment

It started simply: every morning, before the phone, before the emails, I said one true and kind thing to myself. Out loud. It felt ridiculous for about a week.

Then it stopped feeling ridiculous and started feeling like maintenance. Like brushing my teeth, but for the voice.

"You wouldn't let anyone talk to your child the way you talk to yourself. So I stopped allowing it."

What actually changed

  • The hard days didn't disappear — but I stopped adding commentary on top of them.
  • I started finishing things, because the voice stopped telling me they weren't worth finishing.
  • I said "I'm building four apps" out loud to a stranger without laughing nervously after. Small thing. Huge thing.

Where Higher Me came from

That morning practice eventually became structured — and then it became an app. Higher Me is the 30-day version of everything that worked: daily affirmations, journal prompts that make them stick, and a gentle arc from letting go to rising up.

If your inner voice needs a new script, start with one kind sentence tomorrow morning. And if you want the guided version, Higher Me is live right now. ✦
